This training highlights the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA) including the legal protection and services afforded to sex trafficking victims who are U.S. or legal permanent resident children. This training reviews the historical, neurological, and developmental vulnerabilities typical of DMST victims. Treatment needs and challenges resulting from these commonly observed vulnerabilities are described. By gaining knowledge of the common indicators and dynamics specific to DMST, participants are provided with the knowledge needed to accurately identify victims of DMST. Keys to assessing youth for the distinctive indicators of DMST during the intake process are covered and a sample assessment tool is presented. Trauma-informed intervention techniques appropriate for adolescent victims of sex trafficking are introduced.
